Sanjay Kamlani, Co-CEO, Pangea3

Sanjay is a co-founder and Co-CEO of Pangea3, the leader in India legal outsourcing. In this capacity, Sanjay oversees Pangea3's India legal outsourcing business operations and manages all delivery, quality control and administrative services for Pangea3 on a global basis.

Prior to forming Pangea3, Sanjay was the CFO & General Counsel of OfficeTiger B.V., a multinational professional support services outsourcing company. In 2003, Sanjay lived in Chennai, India managing OfficeTiger's India facility. Prior to becoming a member of the founding management team at OfficeTiger in 2000, Sanjay was a Senior Manager with PricewaterhouseCoopers in New York where he developed and managed the US firm's India International Business Network advising U.S. and India- based multinationals on structuring and implementing cross-border business investments, acquisitions and operations in India and the U.S. His major clients included AT&T, Ford Motor Company, Hughes Electronics, Lucent, Cognizant, NASDAQ-Software Solutions International, Softbank and Syntel. Sanjay's experience at OfficeTiger coupled with his experience at PwC working with that firm's 2,000 plus professionals to deliver cross border business solutions and advisory services to U.S. clients amounts to more than 15 years of experience in professional services outsourcing from India, this is one of the factors that makes Pangea3 a leader in India legal outsourcing.

Sanjay holds a B.A. (Cum Laude) from Duke University, a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, and an LL.M. from the New York University Law School. Sanjay is admitted to the New York Bar.

Orijit Das, Board Member, Association of Corporate Counsel; UK and Senior Legal Counsel & Vice President (Europe) Genpact, London, United Kingdom

Orijit Das works for Genpact as their European General Counsel and is responsible for Genpact's legal affairs and Offshoring transactions out of Europe. Genpact is a leading provider of Business Services and is listed on the NYSE.

In the past Mr Das has worked as the EMEA & India - General Counsel for a large technology company and for leading international law firms like Bird & Bird, K&L Gates, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Arthur Andersen.

Board member of ACC (which is the largest body of Corporate Counsels with over 25,000 members across the globe); In his capacity as the UK country rep he is involved in its activities in Europe.

Peter Brudenall, Partner, Lawrence Graham

Peter is a specialist in technology and outsourcing law. He has over 15 years' experience in advising companies on technology procurement, the outsourcing of services, contract disputes, software development and the licensing and exploitation of intellectual property. He also advises companies on data protection, IT security, research and development agreements and distribution agreements.

He acts for both customers and suppliers, and has significant experience in acting for Indian-based outsourcing vendors.

Peter is ranked as a leading lawyer for both outsourcing and technology law in all major legal directories. Peter is recommended by Chambers UK 2011 as "knowledgeable and accommodating" for his outsourcing work and, for his IT work, is "widely respected by the market and has particular expertise in offshore transactions".

Peter is a frequent speaker on technology law and outsourcing issues, and has been widely published in legal journals in the UK and internationally.

John Wotton, Vice President - The Law Society, England and Wales

John Wotton has represented the EU Matters constituency on the Law Society's Council since 2007. He is also an ex officio member of the Legal Affairs and Policy Board, the Management Board, the Membership Board and the Regulatory Affairs Board of the Law Society, and chaired the Support Services Resolution Board and the Society's EU Committee.

John is a consultant to the Antitrust Practice at Allen & Overy. He was a partner from 1984 to 2007 and has advised clients on many important cases before the UK competition authorities and the European Commission. He is closely involved in the media sector, with a focus on regulation and judicial review. In utilities, energy and transport, his work has focused mainly on the water, oil, gas and rail industries.

John became a member of the Co-operation and Competition Panel for NHS-funded Services, on its establishment by the Department of Health in 2009. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Competition Law Forum of BIICL.

John has been on the Law Society’s Council since September 2007 and became Vice-President at the AGM on 15 July 2010. He is due to become President in July 2011.

Nigel Kissack, Head, Pinsent Masons' Dispute Resolution and Litigation team

Specialising in resolving disputes for listed and institutional businesses – in the UK and internationally – he has significant experience of complex M&A disputes / warranty claims, trade and investor disputes, as well as FSA regulatory issues.

A qualified Mediator, Nigel is an expert in injunctions and emergency orders and acts as a Court appointed Supervisor of Search and Seize Orders.

He has led the development of Pinsent Masons' award winning ‘Reaching Solutions’ approach to dispute resolution. The communication, through decision trees, of quantum and strategic options adds value and optimises our service.

Richard Reade, UK General Counsel, ISS World

Richard joined ISS, from Pinsent Masons, in 2007. As UK General Counsel he established and built the UK legal function and set up the first UK legal team. Richard has influenced global ISS legal policies - particularly in contractual risk management.

ISS is a global support services company whose work includes facility management; security; cleaning; catering; landscaping and construction. Forbes lists ISS as the world's 5th largest private employer. In the UK alone, it has 43,000 employees. ISS was published in the American Fortune Magazine, as the world’s 6th best outsourcing company (data complied and assessed by the IAOP).

Richard oversees most corporate legal issues in the UK but with particular emphasis on risk management in commercial contracts. He is a passionate believer in the benefits of sending legal work offshore and has spoken, and written, on the subject. ISS was amongst the first major companies to engage an LPO service provider.

Alison Hook, Director, Global Legal Market Consulting

Alison joined the Law Society in January 2002. Prior to this she worked for the European Commission as Deputy Head of the European Commission Representation in the UK (1997-2001), in the Cabinet of European Commissioner Sir Leon Brittan covering a variety of trade, economic and legal issues (1993-1997) and for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (1987-93). She is an economist by training and joined the Government Economic Service after studying at Edinburgh and Warwick Universities.

Deepak Malhotra, Senior Vice President and General Counsel, Constellation Brands (Europe and Australia)

Deepak Malhotra is Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Constellation Europe and Australia. He is acknowledged as a leader in the global legal community, and his team won Global Legal Team of the Year 2006 at the Legal Week Awards. He has presented at several conferences and written papers for journals on issues facing General Counsel, and relationship with law firms. Deepak has worked in industry for over 12 years, for Constellation, AB Inbev and Gillette, prior to which he worked for two international law firms.

Deepak also serves on the Advisory Board of Global Leaders in Law, which is the leading global General Counsel forum with over 2,000 GCs as members.

Bruce Macmillan, General Counsel, Legal Services Board (England and Wales)

Bruce Macmillan is General Counsel to the Legal Services Board – the new oversight regulator for the English and Welsh legal profession. Prior to joining the Legal Services Board, Bruce was Dell EMEA Senior Counsel for the Consumer, Retail and business distribution divisions. Prior to Dell Bruce was UK Head of Legal for telecoms groups Tele2, and Alpha Telecom and was in house counsel at ONdigital/ITV Digital and Cable & Wireless. Bruce started his legal career at Gouldens (now Jones Day) and also worked for SJ Berwin before moving in house. Bruce has been an active member of legal trade associations including the Commerce & Industry Group (where he was chair of the Corporate Governance Committee) and the Cisco IT lawyers forum.

Mark Ford, Director, Knowledge Centre, Clifford Chance LLP

Mark Ford began his career in 1994 as a trainee and then a solicitor in Clifford Chance's Communications, Media & Technology Group. Since then, he has spent more than 10 years at the cutting edge of innovation in legal practice. In 1999, he was part of the team that set up the firm's online services group, before establishing an R&D unit to research new technologies and their impact on the practice of law. This work led to the introduction of document assembly technology to the firm and his team spearheaded the roll-out of the tool which now encompasses more than 200 legal templates and has users in all the firm's offices. This is thought to be the most extensive implementation by any law firm of document assembly technology.

Mark is currently the Director of the Clifford Chance Knowledge Centre and has led the project since planning began four years ago. Based in the firm's Global Shared Service Centre in Delhi, the Knowledge Centre is a group of 40 offshore staff, that is expected to grow to around 60 over the next 12 months, established as a "captive LPO" operation to provide legal support services to Clifford Chance on a global basis. Last year, the Knowledge Centre worked on nearly 500 projects and handled tasks for over 20 of Clifford Chance's offices across all major practice areas.

Matt Meyer, Chief Executive, Taylor Vinters

Matt is Taylor Vinters' chief executive and a specialist in IT projects and outsourcing. Clients quoted in Legal 500 say that he is "exceptional" and praise him for "an intuitive ability to demonstrate an appropriate level of business and technological knowledge."

Matt's first experience in IT projects came while working in Auckland for New Zealand heavyweight Bell Gully. Matt returned to the UK to join the Eversheds IT projects team. He moved to Taylor Vinters in 2005 keen to build an IT projects powerhouse outside London.

With experience in system acquisition and integration, Matt also advises on software licensing, outsourcing and business process reengineering around new technologies. He recently supported Premier Foods plc with a business critical SAP implementation.

Matt prides himself on knowing which fights to pick and working closely with clients to focus on principles before getting locked into drafting documents.

Manu Kanwar, Legal Director, Head of Commercial and Corporate Affairs, Yahoo! EMEA

Manu heads up legal support for Yahoo!'s commercial groups across EMEA. Prior to joining Yahoo!, where he has been for nearly 7 years, he was a senior lawyer in Osborne Clarke's London Technology and Media team. Manu is well known for his energy, entrepreneurial spirit and his proactive commercial approach. He sits on the Legal and Commercial leadership teams for Yahoo!'s EMEA's business, providing strategic and technical support to both. He has worked hard to ensure that his team members are well integrated within the Business and provide a meaningful and relevant legal service.

Manu was shortlisted for the General Counsel of the Year at the British Legal Awards 2009. He chairs the Lawyers' Forum within the IAB UK, as well advising IAB Europe and the European Interactive Advertising Association.

David Kemp, Executive Director of Legal Policy, Autonomy

David provides business development for Autonomy outside the USA, since March 2010. Autonomy is the US$7 billion market cap software company listed in the FTSE100, specialising in technology for corporate governance, business efficiency and corporate expansion. He works with Corporate Boards, General Counsel and Risk Managers to meet the key challenges they face in terms of empowering their institutions, protecting them and enabling them to promote their corporate business.

By profession he is a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales, having obtained a Masters Degree in Law from Oxford University. He has worked for 11 years as a Corporate Banker at ABN AMRO before becoming a Legal & Compliance Business Manager at ABN AMRO / RBS in 2001.

In the last decade he has created a number of influential cross-industry market groups for setting self-help regulatory bench-marks in areas such as Fraud, Anti-Money Laundering, Legal Intelligence, Records Management and other areas of Investment Banking.

Chris Dale, Director, e-Disclosure Information Project

Chris Dale qualified as an English solicitor in 1980 after reading History at Oxford. He was a litigation partner in London and then a litigation software developer and litigation support consultant before turning to commentary on electronic disclosure / discovery. He runs the e-Disclosure Information Project which disseminates information about the court rules, the problems, and the technology to lawyers and their clients, to judges, and to suppliers. He is a member of Senior Master Whitaker's Working Party which drafted the new Practice Direction and Electronic Documents Questionnaire. He writes the UK’s only authoritative and objective web site and blog on the subject and is a well-known speaker and commentator in the UK, the US and other common law jurisdictions.

Vince Neicho, Litigation Support Manager, Allen & Overy LLP

Vince is Litigation Support Manager at Allen & Overy and is a recognised expert in the field of e-disclosure and document management. He has 35 years of experience at Allen & Overy and is responsible for document management across the litigation department globally.

He also manages the department's paralegals and Litigation Support team and is an Administrator of the firm's Litigation Support system, Ringtail Caseroom. On a global basis, he is actively involved in advising clients on disclosure obligations, preservation, retrieval and organisation of their documents and data to facilitate reviews for disclosure and investigatory purposes. He also has vast experience on the execution of search and seize orders. Vince is a founder member of LiST (Litigation Support Technology) Group and has a particular interest in the development of e-disclosure, the use of electronic documents and the consequent challenges posed to the litigator, both in England and Wales and globally.

Vince is recognised in the market and he is actively shaping the future law on e-disclosure. By way of example, he is a member, by invitation, of the Working Group assembled by Senior Master and Queen's Remembrancer, Master Whitaker, that has drafted an e-disclosure Questionnaire to form part of the disclosure process and also a new Practice Direction governing the e-disclosure process. In addition, Vince's paragraph on e-disclosure was included as a quote in the Preliminary Report of Lord Justice Jackson's Review on Costs and he assisted Lord Justice Jackson with aspects of the chapter on disclosure in the Final Report. He has also addressed judges at one of their conferences on the practicalities of e-disclosure and is a regular speaker on the subject, addressing audiences in London, Brussels, New York, Singapore and Hong Kong.

Mark Ross, Vice President – Legal Services, Integreon Managed Solutions

Mark Ross is an experienced UK litigation solicitor and former partner at high profile UK law firm Underwoods Solicitors.Mark’s involvement in legal outsourcing dates back to January 2004 when Underwoods became the first UK law firm to outsource legal work to a lower cost common law jurisdiction. Chambers Guide refers to Underwoods as “a pioneer of legal offshoring”. Mark was responsible for the development of the workflow system for outsourcing to the firm's South Africa office.

Mark moved to Los Angeles in 2006 as Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing at a niche LPO before joining Integreon in November 2009. He is a recognized authority and thought leader in the field of legal outsourcing. He has been published by, and interviewed for, numerous mainstream and legal publications, including TIME magazine, the UK Law Society Gazette, and the ABA’s Law Practice Management. He is the former Chair of the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals’ Legal Outsourcing Chapter. He is a recognized expert on the Ethics of Legal Outsourcing, and has written numerous articles and a widely acclaimed White Paper dealing with the subject. He developed the first State Bar approved MCLE Ethics course, provided by a legal outsourcing company, on the ethical implications of outsourcing legal work.

Mark’s experience in the field of legal outsourcing is such that he has been invited to address the American Bar Association, UK Law Society and the International Bar Association.He has also been invited to speak as a leading authority on legal outsourcing at conferences run by prestigious organizations including: Financial Times, U.C. Berkeley School of Law, Stanford Center for the Legal Profession, Practicing Law Institute, and American Lawyer.

 

Paul O'Hare, Commercial Technology Partner, Kemp Little LLP & Representative for National Outsourcing Association UK

Paul is a partner in the commercial technology department, and head of the outsourcing practice, at Kemp Little, one of the UK's leading technology-focused law firms. Paul has specialised in outsourcing since qualification in 1998, and has over 10 years experience in the area. He is recognised for his outsourcing expertise by leading legal directories, including Chambers, Legal 500, and PLC Which Lawyer.

Paul regularly acts for suppliers and customers on IT, business process, HR and knowledge process outsourcing transactions, across a range of industry sectors including consumer electronics, consumer goods, engineering, financial services, communications and professional services.

Paul has acted for a number of leading outsourcing service providers, and together with his team, he advises 1 in 10 of the FTSE 100 companies on their sourcing and outsourcing transactions. He has been instructed by several of the UK's top ten law firms on their outsourcing transactions, including their IT, BP and (more recently) legal process outsourcing projects. Having acted for a range of suppliers and customers over the past 10 years, Paul has strong links with representatives from all parts of the outsourcing industry, including suppliers, customers, and sourcing advisors.

Reina D'costa, In House Solicitor, Corporate and Legal Compliance Department, Zee UK

Reina D’costa has 9 years of UK PQE and over 3 years of initial overseas experience as a dual qualified solicitor now based in the UK . Her ties are with one of the top emerging markets (India) while she specialises in managing all aspects of commercial , business, IP/entertainment/media, advertising, marketing, employment, immigration and company secretarial work for the European Head office of a Multinational South Asian Media Group as Sole General Counsel.

As Ofcom Compliance officer for a multinational media Group she has successfully developed effective links of communication with regulatory bodies and acquired licences in television and radio. She has also been responsible for entry into the radio sector and the launch on the Greater London multiplex, Sky, analogue and the internet platforms and advised and guided the group through their successful launch into Russia and the CIS.

Fredrik Motzfeldt, CPCU, Senior Vice President, EMEA Practice Leader, Marsh Global Communications, Media & Technology Practice

In his current role as the Mash EMEA CMT Practice Leader, Fredrik is responsible for technical advice and new business development within the Communications, Media & Technology sector in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Based in London, UK, Fredrik oversees the development of insurance products, risk management consulting and financing solutions for the communications, media & technology industry exposures in EMEA. He acts as an adviser to and liaison with clients and Marsh offices worldwide on a broad range of communications, media & technology industry-related issues, including specialty subjects such as cloud computing, intellectual property, open source, and non-material damage business interruption.

Richard Given, Legal Director, Cisco's Emerging Markets Theatre

Richard is Legal Director for Cisco’s Emerging Markets Theatre whose turnover is ~$4Billion p.a.. Richard drives effective decision-making in the theatre - a key role is approving complex business opportunities alongside other key stakeholders within Cisco. Richard leads a legal team of 15 across 10 locations and 10 time zones advising, guiding and protecting CISCO’s business, often in challenging environments. He is expected to deliver this at a lower expense/bookings ratio each year. Consequently he regularly re-works the way legal services are provided, challenging all pre-conceptions.

Richard is an alumni of Freshfields Bruckhaus Derringer and Cambridge University (spending far more time playing rugby than in the lecture halls!). He is married to a fabulous garden designer (shameless plug: www.bellagardens.co.uk) and is blessed with 2 young (boisterous) children as well as a 1965 Type 2 Split Screen campervan, the last of which reminds him regularly that faster is not always better!

Steven C. Bennett, Partner, Jones Day

Steve Bennett's practice at Jones Day focuses on domestic and international commercial litigation and arbitration, including cases involving bankruptcy, construction, corporate, energy, insurance, intellectual property, privacy and data security, and other disputes.

Steve is chair of the Firm's e-Discovery Committee and an active member of the Firm's construction practice team. He co-founded the Sedona Conference Working Group on International E-Discovery. He teaches a course on conflicts of law at Hofstra Law School and co-teaches a course on advanced civil procedure (e-discovery) at New York Law School. He is a qualified arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association and the CPR Institute. Steve serves as hearing officer pursuant to the consent decree in the Civil RICO case of United States v. Local 14-14B, IUOE (E.D.N.Y.) and served two terms as election officer in the case of United States v. District Council of Carpenters (S.D.N.Y.). He taught arbitration law at Brooklyn Law School for nine years.

Steve regularly speaks to a wide array of groups for CLE and other purposes. He has written more than 150 articles on a variety of topics. His book, Arbitration: Essential Concepts (ALM) was published in 2002. His book, A Privacy Primer for Corporate Counsel(Aspatore/West) was published in 2009.

Steve writes a continuing column, "Arbitration," with Professor Samuel Estreicher, which has appeared in the New York Law Journalsince 2004, and his column, "Computer Law," has appeared in the New York State Bar Association Journal since 2009. He blogs occasionally in the "Thinkernet" series at InternetEvolution.com and at NLJ.com.

David Whitney – Relationship Manager, Solicitors Regulation Authority

David Whitney is a Relationship Manager in the Regulation Directorate at the SRA. With a team of 4 other managers, David is currently developing and piloting relationship management as one of a range of new supervisory techniques which the SRA may use from October 2011 following the introduction of outcomes-focused regulation.

David leads the SRA outsourcing group and is currently considering a range of outsourcing issues with a number of global and international law firms in connection with the relationship management pilot.

David is a solicitor. He trained, qualified and practised at Simmons & Simmons and subsequently at Barlow, Lyde & Gilbert specialising in commercial litigation, professional indemnity and disciplinary matters. Following a period of consulting and training work for UK Top 100 firms focusing on professional standards and compliance issues, David worked as Risk Manager at Bircham Dyson Bell LLP. He joined the SRA in May 2010.

Pankaj Parnami, Founder & Director, KPO Consultants

Pankaj is the Founder and Director of KPO Consultants, a company providing business solutions exclusively to the LPO industry. His expertise encompasses various aspects of the legal outsourcing business—including strategy development, operations management, creating sales and marketing strategies, to name a few—and he has been responsible for facilitating strategic alliances between LPO vendors and law firms in the US, UK, and other buyer markets. His intricate knowledge of the LPO industry is such that the Government of Mauritius has invited him to address its industry leaders on diverse issues such as Building up the LPO Industry in Mauritius; Doing KPO Business in Africa; etc. Besides addressing numerous key conferences on the LPO industry, Pankaj regularly participates in national and international conferences organized by esteemed organizations like US Embassy, IACC, ASSOCHAM, PHDCCI, Lexis-Nexis, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Institute of Company Secretaries of India, etc. He has authored numerous white papers on legal outsourcing and off shoring, and is currently assisting few of India’s top research organizations on ‘Future of Legal Offshoring – Global Perspective'. By organizing the Global LPO Conference 2010 in India, it is his endeavor to bring buyers and vendors of the LPO industry on a common platform to address their key concerns and enable them to engage in meaningful dialogues to further their business interests.

Pankaj holds an MBA degree with concentrations in Marketing and Finance from IMI, Belgium. He is also an Associate Company Secretary (2001) from Institute of Company Secretaries of India.

Alex Holt, Director, Legal & Business Services, Steria

Alex heads the Legal & Business Services team in Steria, a major European provider of business services and technology. Steria has consistently ranked in the top tier of outsourcing providers, a position that was recognised most recently in their being awarded the "BPO Project of the Year" and retain the UK No. 1 (and European No. 3) ranking for multi-process financial BPO.

After many years as an Insurance Partner in a top 50 law firm, Alex found the escape tunnel and, having cleared the woods, ran a successful consultancy providing strategic and operational guidance to law firms. The experience gained in advising the industry on strategic growth, business innovation and efficiency initiatives led to his joining Steria in 2009. Alex’s unusual mix of both vertical and horizontal expertise brings a unique and valuable perspective to the table when discussing and assessing opportunities for law firms, chambers and in-house legal teams to outsource services.
